A Different Santa Monica Studio Game Is Reportedly In Development

According to insider Shinobi602 in a ResetEra thread, the next title being developed by Cory Barlog is not the recently revealed God of War Trilogy Remake and is a separate project. When asked whether the upcoming remake is Barlog’s project, the insider responded, “naw.” Shinobi602 also claimed that Barlog’s new game is expected to be revealed this year and could appear during a State of Play in May or at Summer Game Fest, citing “given the quarter they’re targeting,” though they noted they are unsure. If the game is not revealed during that window, the insider suggested the release may have been pushed back or that it could have a “shorter reveal to release” window. It is worth noting that these are unverified claims and not official information.

Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Santa Monica Studio recently announced God of War Trilogy Remake, a remake of God of War, God of War II, and God of War III. A release date has not been announced, but the title will launch for PlayStation 5. The reveal trailer features original voice actor TC Carson as Kratos, confirming his involvement in the project, revealing that the trilogy is currently in development, and thanking fans for their support.  Additionally, the publisher announced God of War: Sons of Sparta, a 2D action platformer featuring a canon story set during Kratos’ youth, focusing on his Spartan training alongside his brother Deimos. The game is developed by the same team at Santa Monica Studio behind God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök. It is available now for PlayStation 5.
