Build a Rocket Boy Announces More Layoffs, CEO Still Claiming Sabotage

Developer Build a Rocket announced on LinkedIn that the studio has been hit with another round of layoffs. In a message from co-CEO Mark Gerhard, he claimed once again that the studio and its game MindsEye was affected by “organized espionage” and corporate sabotage. He added that the studio is working with legal advisors to investigate this “criminal activity” that has “resulted in overwhelming evidence.” However, “Because this matter is moving towards prosecution, we cannot share the full details publicly yet,” he said.

According to a Insider Gaming report in February during an internal meeting with Build a Rocket Boy, Gerhard claimed that he “caught the guys” who sabotaged MindsEye’s release in an alleged campaign costing more than one million euros. The report states that Gerhard opened the video call, which took place in late January, by saying he “caught the guys who’ve been sabotaging MindsEye.” He added that it was an American company, but “probably not the company you’re thinking of.”

Gerhard claimed the “very American company” spent more than one million euros in 2025 through a UK-based company called ‘Ritual Network’ to conduct a smear campaign and sabotage the game. He alleged that the campaign involved several influencers, three journalists, and even Build a Rocket Boy employees. He also claimed that these individuals “will all be served in person, criminal complaints, shortly,” and that the charges would include “espionage, sabotage, and criminal interference.” Gerhard further stated that the alleged individuals would be put into the game’s upcoming spy mission. “We will use these people, these names and these facts for our own fun, ” Gerhard said. “We’re gonna put some of these names into our upcoming spy mission.”
