13 Sentinels

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Coming To Switch Next April

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, the latest game from developer Vanillaware, will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch in April 2022. This will mark the first time one of their games has been available on a platform other than PlayStation since their 2009 title Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

Vanillaware is perhaps best known for their classic RPG Odin’s Sphere, which was originally released in 2007 for the PlayStation 2. They also gained plenty of press for their PlayStation 3 title Dragon’s Crown, which originally saw release in 2013. Vanillaware has gained a reputation for the art direction in their games, using a watercolor, hand-drawn style that offers striking and memorable visuals throughout the runtime, with 13 Sentinels being no exception.

The plot of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim follows 13 playable characters in 80’s japan, piloting mechs against an alien invasion and finding love among their fellow pilots. The game is split between two segments of gameplay, a visual novel style story-mode that allows players to control each character between beautiful looking environments as they attempt to unravel a twisted mystery of time travel, giant mech’s, and murder plots. On the other hand, players will control a team of mechs on a strategic board to attempt to stop major attacks on the city, with each character getting unique abilities that can aid in the fight.

Overall, the game is definitely worth the experience, if you can look past the large amounts of dialog, or enjoy other games such as 348: Shibuya Scramble or Nine Persons, Nine Hours, Nine Doors. Vanillaware manages to release some of the most unique games, so hopefully, the game did well enough on its initial release and will do well on this new release, to justify the company continuing to do what they do best. It will be available on the Nintendo Switch on April 12, 2022.
