Voice of Cards

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars Announced

If you want to get me too excited for a game there are only two things you have to say, Yoko Taro. So, when the latest game from the bizarre mind of Yoko Taro, Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars, appeared during the Nintendo Direct I didn’t need to see much to know I was gonna play it.

For people who do not know Yoko Taro, he is the mind behind the NeiR series. He had also worked on the Drakenguard series before that. Although he had also created the mobile game SINoALICE, this upcoming card game will be his first major console IP outside of the aforementioned series in quite some time.

Weirdly enough, or perhaps completely on-brand with Yoko Taro, the game has more in common with a traditional JRPG than a card battler. Everything in the world of Voice of Cards is represented by cards from the main characters, enemies, and events in the world you explore.

Battles take place like you might expect a card game too but except for mechanics like dice rolls, they seem to be a fairly straightforward turn-based affair. The interesting part of the game is that it is mostly backdropped on a wooden table, simulation a tabletop RPG.

Outside of a few glimpses of gameplay, it is hard to tell what the full adventure in this game will feel like. The good news is we will not have to wait very long to find out. Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is set to card battle and dice roll its way onto the Nintendo Switch, as well as the PlayStation 4 on October 28th. If you would like to check it out now, the demo for the game is available on the Nintendo Switch.
