Bigben Interactive revealed more details for upcoming RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong at PDXCon.
Coming on the heels of the reveal trailer for Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood, Bigben is expanding its presence in the World of Darkness with the production of a new title based on the tabletop pen-and-paper franchise Vampire: The Masquerade. V:TM – Swansong is scheduled for release sometime in 2021, developed by Big Bad Wolf studio, a narrative RPG specialist and author of award-winning game The Council.
An iconic role-playing game, Vampire: The Masquerade is well known among tabletop gamers. Created by White Wolf Publishing in 1991, V:TM incorporated the vampire myth into modern societies. Putting themselves in the shoes of one of these immortal creatures, players struggle to control their lust for blood while leading the life of both predator and outcast. World of Darkness vampires bear little resemblance to the solitary, monstrous creatures of ancient legend. Instead they are superior, sophisticated creatures who live among humans, veiled behind a shield of secrecy known as the Masquerade. Organized into secret societies with distinct clans and contrasting visions of their role in the world, these vampires are at once beautiful and monstrous.
Big Bad Wolf studio intends to continue specializing in narrative RPGs after their success with The Council. This adaption of Vampire: The Masquerade is the most ambitious project the team has faced yet, featuring a strong story supported by solid RPG mechanics that respect the rules of the fifth edition of Vampire: The Masquerade and the universe of the World of Darkness.
Thomas Veauclin, Creative and Art Director at Big Bad Wolf studios said, “At the studio, we’re long-time and passionate fans of the tabletop role-playing game. We have wanted to create a video game inspired by this universe for several years now. The project fits perfectly with Bigben’s desire to expand its catalogue of narrative games. We are very happy to be unveiling it together.”
“My past experience as an editor and author of role-playing games, and also as Editor-in-Chief of an RPG magazine is proof of how important this project is to me personally,” added Benoit Clerc, Head of Publishing at Bigben. “Just like me, many fans have been waiting a long time for a new adaptation of this cult game, which will be developed by one of the most talented studios of its generation.”
In Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, players will take control of three vampires belonging to different clans of the Camarilla, the secret society to which most vampires belong. Weaving between intertwined tales, players must examine each character’s different point of view, separating fact and fiction. Through whispers of conspiracy, power struggles, and murder, gamers must protect their clan, discover truth, and above all, enforce the Masquerade.
