THQ Is Back. Nordic Games Rebranding as THQ Nordic

Nordic Games has announced plans to rebrand itself as ‘THQ Nordic’.

The company acquired the THQ trademark back in 2014, a year after it bought former THQ franchises Darksiders, Red Faction, Full Spectrum Warrior, Destroy All Humans and more at auction.

However, it now plans to make use of the defunct publisher’s name officially, ditching the Nordic Games name and relaunching as THQ Nordic.

This could perhaps mean we’ll see some re-releases, remasters and perhaps even remakes of some of THQ’s most well loved classic games. I’d be down for a Summoner remake, but that probably means we’ll see Red Faction make a comeback and Darksiders would be a prime choice for a third entry in the series.

“Whilst we take great pride in our Swedish roots and accomplished a great deal under the NordicGames masthead,” Wingefors said, “We decided it was time to incorporate the THQ name. Those key brands will continue to shape our business in a meaningful way going forward, and THQ Nordic represents a core approach of doing much more than ‘owning’ a highly competitive portfolio of IP. We cherish them, and align them with the very best development resources to expand upon them with the level of experience that communities and established fan bases expect and deserve. Side note – another upside to this whole rebrand thing is we don’t get asked about the Nordic Game parties at Gamescom anymore – it was the other guys who threw them.”
