The Outer Worlds 2 Announced

The Outer Worlds 2 thrilled many players with its honest and clever trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. The visuals of the beautiful mushroom forest being disrupted by an enormous monster were stunning. Funny enough, the narrator mentions that the creature disrupting the serene atmosphere will not even be seen in the game.

This game is a sequel to The Outer Worlds, a role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Private Division in 2019. The game was favored pretty highly by critics, so it is not much of a surprise that a sequel, The Outer Worlds 2, is in the works.

The official website offers this description for the first game:

Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later than you expected only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony.

As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter a host of factions all vying for power, who you decide to become will determine the fate of everyone in Halcyon. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Although the cinematic trailer did not give us much to go on, the tongue-in-cheek narration was a refreshing and honest take on new game announcements. The official video from Xbox says this about the trailer, “New solar system, new crew, same Outer Worlds. The Outer Worlds 2 is coming…and when that day is closer we will show you more…but until then enjoy this.”

We can not wait to see more information about this game. Breaking the fourth wall and speaking directly to gamers is a fresh and welcome change and we hope The Outer Worlds 2 carries on with this type of advertising in the future. The first game, The Outer Worlds, is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch. The Outer Worlds 2 will be available for Xbox Series X and Windows PC.
