The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Still “A Long Way Off” According to Todd Howard

In a recent GQ article, The Elder Scrolls 6 director Todd Howard revealed that despite over seven years since its announcement, the game is “still a long way off.” “I’m preaching patience. I don’t want fans to feel anxious,” he said. “I like to just announce stuff and release it. My perfect version – and I’m not saying this is going to happen – is that it’s going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear.” This suggests that like Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, the next mainline title may be released soon after its announcement. When asked if this is the case, Howard responded by saying, “You might say that was a test run. It worked out well.” Howard also revealed that “hundreds of people on Fallout right now, with 76 and some other things we’re doing.” This supports rumors that a new Fallout game and a Fallout 3 remaster is in development.

According to insider Jez Cordon on the Xbox Two podcast back in July, The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in a state that is “quite playable”. While discussing Microsoft and Bethesda’s plans with YouTuber Rand al Thor 19, Cordon added to his statement by saying, “we’ll put it this way. When we did our predictions for the showcase and we said that we expect Elder Scrolls to be there, for me, it was an educated guess.” According to Xbox head Phil Spencer, during the court case between Microsoft and the Federal Trade Commission regarding Microsoft’s proposed Activision Blizzard acquisition back in 2023, The Elder Scrolls 6 is over five years away from release, and specific platforms for the game are still undecided.
