Players of MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic woke up today to find an enormous patch waiting for download, as the newest expansion, “Onslaught,” officially launches.
Following the storyline set in the previous expansion, Knights of the Eternal Throne, players will find themselves thrust back into the original conflict of the game: the war between Empire and Republic. This return to the game’s roots was announced in April of 2019, with an original release date of sometime in September.
In August, an announcement from the SW:ToR development team stated the release date for Onslaught had changed to October 22, 2019. “We want time to make adjustments based on your insight,” read the announcement. “It was a difficult decision, but with our commitment to delivering you a quality experience, we’ve decided to push the release date for our new expansion.” News of the delay was met with good spirits by players of the game, most stating emphatically on the official forums that they would rather wait longer for a better experience, and not instead play an unfinished, rushed expansion.
Onslaught brings with it to the game new planets and enemies to battle, a new Flashpoint set on the world of Corellia, and an epic new Operation on the savage moon Dxun, home of some of the most vicious wildlife in the galaxy. In addition, Onslaught introduces an entire new gearing system to Star Wars: The Old Republic with the introduction of Tactical items. Available through crafting, pvp, flashpoints, and operations, Tactical items allow players to modify their existing gear sets, tailoring their bonuses to fit their individual playstyles. Last and certainly not least, Onslaught allows players to create characters of the Nautolan species, fulfilling the wishes of many fans.
To add a little cream on top of the expansion experience, Onslaught features enhanced Legacy support. All gear and equipment earned from Onslaught onwards will be transferable to alternate characters through the Legacy system, making it easier than ever to have a huge stable of characters in one’s arsenal.
