Sony Announces First PS5 Event

Sony announced the first live event for the PS5. This event will take place on June 4 at 1:00PM PDT, and it will last around an hour.

Viewers can expect Sony to reveal details regarding the console itself and how it differs from the PS4. Sony will also be showing a couple PS5 games at the event.

Confirmed games for the PS5 include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, and Dying Light 2.

“The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.” – Jim Ryan, PlayStation CEO

Sony has also told reporters that all future PS4 games after June 13 will be PS5 compatible. Fans of The Last of Us 2 and The Ghost of Tsushima will be able to experience it on the new console. Developers who request a PlayStation certification must now include PS5 compatibility. Similarly, Xbox Series X includes backwards compatibility, which may be why Sony is pushing hard for future compatibility in upcoming games.

“(The PS5) will deliver even more immersive experiences on a game console. Higher speed, enhanced sensory perceptions generated by its revolutionary controller, and sound delivered in 3D audio will combine to realize truly next generation console game experiences unlike anything before.”

Sony has also stated that players who would like to purchase the PS5 can expect its release in the holiday season this year. They have yet to confirm the system’s price range.

For those who want to participate in the live stream, Sony will be streaming on Twitch and YouTube. After this week’s showcase, Sony reports there will be much more to come.
