Today’s PlayStation Network State of Play broadcast handed fans the news they’ve been waiting for—the official announcement of Resident Evil 3.
A complete reimagination of the original game and coming on the heels of the award-winning Resident Evil 2, RE3 once again makes use of Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to conclude the Racoon City narrative arc.
Resident Evil 3 stars iconic heroine Jill Valentine and her escape from the crumbling decay and horror of Racoon City, fleeing before the inexorable pursuit of the unrelenting, ruthless bioweapon, Nemesis. Resident Evil 3 is set during the hellish and macabre outbreak of the T-virus, a biological weapon developed by the pharmaceutical company known as Umbrella Corporation. RE3 marks the debut of Nemesis—a gargantuan humanoid bioweapon designed for savage brutality and high-functioning intelligence alike. Armed with a massive stockpile of high-powered weaponry and shrouded within a black suit to hide his marred features, Nemesis will maim, pulverize, or destroy any obstacle on the path to his target—and his pertinacious pursuit of S.T.A.R.S. member Jill Valentine made him an icon of the Resident Evil series.
Jill’s harrowing escape occurs in the panic-stricken hours leading up to and following the events of Resident Evil 2. Intense combat and puzzle solving combine to offer players the heart-pounding, ultimate final chapter of Racoon City’s collapse and disintegration. The grisly settings from the original game together with new content come to life as never before with the RE Engine, used in the past to create Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Resident Evil 2, and Devil May Cry 5 with high-definition graphics and modernized gameplay mechanics.
Complementing the action-packed single player campaign is Resident Evil Resistance, an asymmetrical 4 vs. 1 multiplayer game that was previously known by its working title of Project Resistance. Originally unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this year, Project Resistance allows players to become one of the Masterminds behind the scenes—assuming the role of Resident Evil characters such as Annette Birkin, and conducting a series of deadly experiments. Through manipulating the environment and use of a deck of cards to place creatures, set traps, and weaponized security cameras, players can snare helpless Survivors. In a first for the franchise, Masterminds can even take direct control of elite bioweapons like G-Birkin and Tyrant. Facing these Masterminds, four Survivors must work together, making the most of a variety of weapons and each player’s unique special abilities to escape the experiment before time runs out.
Resident Evil 3 will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and PC via Steam on April 3, 2020. Fans who pre-order this epic title will also receive the exclusive Classic Costume Pack, featuring the original design for Jill Valentine, as well as the original hairstyle for Carlos Oliveira.
