Need for Speed Heat launched worldwide today for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Gamers can explore the brand-new open world of Palm City, where street racers choose their way to play. Fans can participate in sanctioned events during the day, or risk everything to build rep in underground races at night. All great rewards require great risk, and it’s in the player’s hands to decide how far they are willing to go.

“At its core Need for Speed is about custom rides, adrenaline-filled races, and showcasing the latest in car customization. With Need for Speed Heat, we’ve dialed those core tenants up, and dropped them into a vibrant new world,” said Riley Cooper, Creative Director at Ghost Games. “Heat offers two firsts for the series, including a unique day and night cycle that offers players two ways to play, and customizable avatars so they can express themselves beyond just their wheels.”

The hybrid-electric performance vehicle Polestar 1 is available for the first time in Need for Speed Heat, as well as some of the most iconic car brands in the world. Heat also offers more customization than the series has seen yet, including a range of options for both performance and style, allowing players to create their dream car. Another first for the franchise, Need for Speed Heat features character customization, with a set of twelve preset avatars players can choose from. Clothing and accessories from PUMA, Life’s a Beach, End Clothing, and other well-known brands let gamers be as trendy as they want to be… or not.

Need for Speed Heat also introduces players to Palm City, a new urban environment that appears typical during the day, but becomes a dangerous neon playground once the sun sets. Inspired by Miami, Florida and its multicultural blend of music, street art, and night lights, Palm City is a street-racer’s paradise. Day and night cycles act as the core of progression in the game, as players race during the day in a series of sanctioned events to earn money and build bank, while at night they engage in illicit racing to establish their names and earn reputation.
