Naughty Dog Condemns Harassment of Employees

Naughty Dog released a statement this weekend stating that it “condemns” any harassment or threats directed towards its team or cast. Most if not all of the backlash is due to the controversial ending of the Last of Us 2.

“Although we welcome critical discussion, we condemn any form of harassment or threats directed towards our team and cast. Their safety is our top priority, but we must all work together to root out this type of behavior and maintain a constructive and compassionate discourse.” – Naughty Dog

Amongst these messages sent are spoilers regarding the game, as well as death threats and upsetting language. Subsequently, they will not be displayed here.

Laura Bailey who plays new character Abby in The Last of Us 2, has come forward saying she has received multiple death threats and insults from people online regarding the actions of her character. She has also voice-acted on games like Catherine: Full Body and Spider-man

“Man. I try to only post positive stuff on here,” she wrote, along with several screenshots of hateful messages she received . “But sometimes this just gets a little overwhelming. I blacked out some of the words cuz, ya know, spoilers.”

Game Director Neil Druckmann has also received a barrage of hateful comments regarding the game. This had begun since details of the game were leaked in April.

“You can love or hate the game and share your thoughts about it. Unfortunately too many of the messages I’ve been getting are vile, hateful, & violent.”

On the other hand, the game itself received positive reviews from critics. Most of the negative reviews come from users. Most of the negative comments are in reference to the plot and characters, but the game received commendations for graphics and gameplay.
