Horizon: Forbidden West Has Gone Gold

Guerilla Games has announced that their upcoming game, Horizon: Forbidden West, has officially gone gold a little under a month ahead of its planned release date. Originally announced during the PlayStation Showcase in 2020 as a showcase of the then-upcoming PlayStation 5 console. Originally suggested to be aiming for a 2021 release date, it was announced during Gamescom last year that it would officially release in February 2022.

Alongside the announcement that Horizon: Forbidden West had gone gold, Studio Director & Executive Producer of Guerilla Games, Angie Smets took to PlayStation Blog to showcase more gameplay clips for the game, and congratulate the team behind it on their hard work in meeting this deadline. While the clips showcase gameplay that has been seen before, more or less, this is the first highlight for the game using the PlayStation 4 Pro console, with gameplay up until now being for the PlayStation 5.

Horizon: Forbidden West is the long-awaited sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn, which saw players take on the role of Aloy in a post-apocalyptic future in which humans live in small tribes and are forced to contend with gigantic robotic dinosaurs that roam the land. Adding to the open-world experience this time, Aloy will be able to swim and explore vast underwater areas.

Actor Lance Riddick is also returning to his role from the first game, portraying Sylens. In addition to him, The Matrix actor Carrie Anne-Moss will also be joining the cast this time around with both doing their own motion capture work.

Similar to some previous first-party games on the PlayStation, Horizon: Forbidden West will feature a free upgrade from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 5, due to fan backlash against the pricing scheme of several versions when they were announced last year. It will be the last first-party title to do so. It will be available on February 18th.
