Gears 5 has just released, but it seems to be having a very strong launch. According to Aaron Greenberg, GM of Xbox Game Marketing, Gears 5 has already hit millions of players. Three million players to be exact. Between strong sales, being available on Xbox Game Pass, and on PC, Gears 5 has achieved the biggest launch of any Xbox Game Studios game.
Gears 5’s performance eclipses that of Gears of War 4 by over double the number of players. On PC, that number is tripled. This is not just happenstance though. Microsoft has put in place multiple initiatives to ensure that the launch numbers of Xbox Game Studio games are good.
All Xbox Game Studio games are now released on Game Pass at launch. Game Pass is now available on PC. Game Pass Ultimate gives members access to Game Pass on both consoles and PC. Microsoft is even weighing the possibility of putting Game Pass on other consoles.
Gears 5 is also being reviewed well as well, with an aggregate score of 86 according to Metacritic. Our own Ryan Pitner, has referred to the game as “one of the best in the series” in his review. With great critical response, obviously Xbox Game Studios seem to be going in the right direction. This is fantastic in comparison to early this console generation. Xbox was struggling with getting its own big hit. That is why this victory is great news.
The Coalition seems to have a hit on their hands. If the future of this much loved series continues to be in their hands, they seem more than capable of continuing its success.
Gears 5 is available now on Xbox One and PC, as well as Xbox Game Pass.
