Digimon Survive Delayed Into 2022

Digimon Survive has been delayed for the third time since it was announced back in 2018. Originally planned to release at some point during 2021 it has now been delayed into 2022, putting it among good companies as this year has seen many studios delay their games due to the lingering effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the gaming industry.

This news was broken to fans that have been awaiting the title (including myself) by the Producer of Digimon Survive, Kazumasa Habu. He started by thanking fans for their continued support before stating that the game was indeed delayed, something that if you had been following the project, seems like an inevitability anyway.

The reason given for this delay is due to the need to “allocate more time to development,” though no clarification is offered on that. It could be due to Japan’s ongoing struggle with the Pandemic, which has bounced in and out of states of emergencies, as well as playing host to the 2020 Olympics earlier this year. There is also the possibility that the team simply needed the extra time to deliver on their vision with no outside factors contributing.

There is also no timeframe on when in 2022 they are aiming to release the game. It would be prudent to avoid the earlier months as a release window, given that both January and February will play host to several large titles including the reboot of Saints Row, as well as Elden Ring.

Digimon Survive is a new take on the Digimon series offering a Tactical RPG approach to the franchise. It will see the player controlling their Digital Monsters on a grid for combat as they battle their enemies. Based on earlier trailers, it also aims to offer a darker take on the Digimon series.
