The long-awaited next-generation version of Cyberpunk 2077 may be released sooner rather than later as the game has now been spotted on PlayStation 5. As tweeted by the PlayStation Game Size twitter account, which is known for posting findings on the PSN database, a new addition to the PSN backend suggests that the game is on its way soon.

As can be seen in the tweet above, this finding indicates a native version of the game for the PlayStation 5, with brand new cover art for the title. In a comment by PlayStation Game Size following their own tweet they go on to suggest that the next-gen version will likely be released somewhere between mid-February and early March. That being said, they have no way of knowing that with certainty so this should be taken with a grain of salt.
These anticipated new versions of Cyberpunk 2077 were originally intended to release at some point in 2021. In October of last year during a public investors call, they were delayed into 2022, following statements by the company they would delay them if they needed the extra work, this in response to the response to the unpolished release of the original game in November of 2021.
Initially, the game was released with several issues, such as crashing, texturing issues, popping, and more which greatly hurt CD Projekt Red’s standing with their fanbase. Despite this, the game experienced better gameplay on next-gen systems such as the Xbox Series and the PS5, within being virtually unplayable on the base Xbox One and PS4, with PC having a far better release than both but still with some issues.
Because of this pressure was put on the next-gen versions of the game, with the game already appearing to need the more powerful hardware. With this new news, we might not have long to wait for the definitive version of the game, which is free to upgrade to for all players that have purchased the game already. Hopefully, the extra time made this version one that will be fully put together at launch.
