Cyberpunk 2077 Getting “Major Update” Next Year, As Well As More DLC Expansion

A major update is currently planned for Cyberpunk 2077 that will release early next year, with a DLC expansion also in development. On November 29th, CD Projekt Red leadership posted a press release to mark an end to their 3rd quarter of the fiscal 2021/2022 year. During the said release, it is stated that the “major update for all platforms” was deep in development and was planned to release within the first three months of the 2022/2023 fiscal year.

This would place the release of this update at some point between March to May in 2022. Additionally, this new update is planned to launch alongside the release of the next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, placing those versions in that timeframe as well after they were delayed out of 2021.

After outlining plans for the update, the press release went on to state that a “Cyberpunk expansion” is also in development from CD Projekt Red. There are no details as to what players can expect from this expansion, and it is only mentioned briefly alongside the next-gen version of The Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red had previously stated they planned to expand the game through both free and paid DLC in the future. While one small pack of free cosmetics has been released so far, additional free DLC has been delayed into 2022.

Cyberpunk 2077 has had a long and bumpy road since it launched. Due to large amounts of bugs and glitches, additional content for the game such as a multiplayer mode had been “reconsidered” as they focused on attempting to fix the game. Thanks to Black Friday discounts, the game was able to achieve a “very positive” on steam nearly a year after it first launched. While it will still be a long road to regain the trust of their fanbase, the game has definitely been on the right track.
