In a new video released by developer Stray Bombay, their upcoming cooperative shooter The Anacrusis will be released in January 2022. Originally showcased during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase at E3 2021, the game was also confirmed to be releasing for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store on Jan. 13, 2022.
Stray Bombay was originally formed back in 2019, the team included former Valve writer Chet Faliszek as well as former Riot Games technical designer Kimberly Voll. Since then the company has expanded and based on this latest dev blog, the Seattle-based studio is close to releasing its first game.
As part of the dev blog, it was stated that this January release will act as a sort of early access for the title. The plan is to get the game into players’ hands before beginning to make changes to the overall gameplay. The video then goes over what can be expected with the game at launch, as well as giving gamers a new look at gameplay toward the end.
Thankfully, The Anacrussis is planned to launch on Xbox Game Pass for both PC and Xbox on January 13th, making it easy for players to jump in and get a feel for the game. It will also be a cross-play title for both Xbox and PC, as well as cross-gen for the family of Xbox titles.
The Anacrusis features 4 player co-op, pitting you and your group against an alien hoard as you attempt to navigate a stranded ship in the outer reaches of space. The game will feature perks that help diversify how you play, as well as an AI driver system that changes spawn for enemies and bosses as well as gear for the player.
This is not the only game that is aimed at the 4 player shooter genre. Recently Back 4 Blood, the spiritual successor of Left 4 Dead, also launched on Xbox Game Pass and managed to perform well on the platform. Early next year Ubisoft is also set to launch Rainbow Six: Extraction which also follows a similar format, spinning off from their popular Rainbow Six: Seige. Aliens: Fireteam Elite, a 4 person co-op game set in the Aliens universe is also set to debut on Xbox Game Pass this month.
