Amazon In ‘Final Negotiations’ For Mass Effect Series

Amazon Studios is, according to rumors, in final negotiations to produce a series based on the Mass Effect IP from Bioware. As reported by Dateline, the internet-based retail giant, which has been ever-expanding into other mediums through its Amazon Prime streaming service, as well as Twitch and Amazon Games, expands its high-profile of shows further.

Amazon has already begun to expand into the Fantasy setting with an upcoming Lord of The Rings show, as well as the recently released Wheel of Time. The Science Fiction series by EA and Bioware should fit right at home, offering a wide universe of aliens and settings to draw from for a show.

Earlier this year, the project director on Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, Mac Walters, stated he believed it was a “matter of when, not if” somebody decided to adapt the source material, continuing by saying he felt a show would be a great fit for a “story that’s as fleshed out as Mass Effect.”

He went on to further say:

When we build out a Mass Effect game, we have a backbone, or an overall story that we want to tell, but each level or mission is like its own TV episode. It doesn’t get written ahead of time. It gets written at the time that we get to it. So it gets added to the main story and sometimes the main story gets adjusted because we did something really cool in that ‘episode.’ So long-from storytelling is a great place for game franchises

The first three games in the Mass Effect Series are well regarded among most games, with 2 often in contention for best game of all time. The studio returned to the franchise in 2017 with Mass Effect: Andromeda which was not viewed as the return to form fans were hoping for. A new Mass Effect is currently in development, returning to the engine of the original games.
