The Surge 2 Announced, Coming 2019

The Surge 2, the sequel to last year’s Souls-like action RPG has been confirmed to be in development at creator Deck13. Like its predecessor, the sequel will be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with the current target being sometime in 2019.

Developer Deck13, is a German video game developer and publisher based in Frankfurt. The company was founded in July 2001 by the team behind Artex Software, a studio that primarily developed video games for RISC OS, such as Ankh: The Tales of Mystery.

“The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original – hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic, limb-targeting system and deep character progression – while also expanding greatly upon the formula,” says the press release. “The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with even more options thanks to an expanded limb targeting system. In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses.

Set in a new environment, said to be a “sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design”, The Surge 2 will run on an upgraded engine. The limb targeting system (one of the original’s more unique but finicky features) will return with improvements, as well as more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones to take on The Surge 2’s new enemies.

“The Surge gives a lousy first impression with it bland sci-fi setting and grab bag of obvious influences. Given time, though, there’s an unrefined gem in here for those willing to put up with its quirks. If this is Deck 13’s next step to building something truly great, it’s a solid, if flawed one,” said freelancer John Learned
